About us
The Sensory Sciences @FAU consists of an interdisciplinary team of researchers dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of sensation and perception. Our collaborative research spans from molecular structures to higher organisms, focusing on the sensation, processing, and perception of both internal and external stimuli. Our ultimate goal is to enhance and sustain human health and well-being and to establish a more sustainable interaction with our environment.
Strategic research aims of the Sensory Sciences @FAU:
- Build models of human perception and cognition to improve the diagnosis and therapy of psychological and neurological disorders
- Understand principles of the brain’s visual and auditory sensory systems to create interfaces for human-machine– and brain-computer-interactions
- Unvravel mechanisms of sensation, perception and preferences of food to produce healthier and tasty food and foster healthier nutritional behavior
- Develop minimally-invasive brain-stimulation suites for therapeutic applications
Definition
Sensory Sciences explore how molecular structures to higher organisms sense, process and perceive external and internal stimuli in order to adapt and respond to their environment.
Vision & Mission
As an interdisciplinary team we study processes and develop tools to understand mechanisms of (human) sensing with the aim to improve human physical and mental health and wellbeing and to establish a more sustainable interaction with our planet.
